Wilkinson Stekloff Leads the Way in Legal Aid’s Generous Associates Campaign

WASHINGTON — The Legal Aid Society recently recognized Wilkinson Stekloff for its record-breaking contributions to its Generous Associates Campaign, an annual fundraiser to help support Legal Aid’s efforts representing those most in need. Wilkinson Stekloff raised the most money from firms with 50 attorneys or fewer, and topped the “Per Attorney Giving” competition, raising $1,452 per attorney in the D.C. office.

“Our firm is strongly committed to pro bono representation, and we are thrilled to support Legal Aid’s mission to bring fair and equal access to justice for all,” said Wilkinson Stekloff Founding Partner Alex Walsh. “We look forward to continuing to support Legal Aid’s important work representing those most in need.”

The Generous Associates Campaign is an annual fundraiser dating back to 1990. Led by associates at 82 law firms in DC and chaired by an associate co-chair committee, nearly 5,000 attorneys and staff contributed to the Campaign this year.

“We are so honored by the support provided by Wilkinson Stekloff on behalf of our neighbors living in poverty in DC,” said Legal Aid Society Executive Director Eric Angel. “The firm’s support will make a huge difference in our ability to fulfil our mission of making justice real for low-income DC residents.”

The Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia announced that the 2019 Generous Associates Campaign raised $2.48 million for Legal Aid, topping the previous record set in 2018 by $330,000. Funds raised through the Generous Associates Campaign will help District residents navigating legal issues related to eviction, domestic violence, child support, public benefits, foreclosure, debt, immigration, and more. Legal Aid’s work impacted more than 10,000 people in 2018.

Beyond its financial contributions, pro bono representation is woven into Wilkinson Stekloff’s DNA. The firm has handled almost 50 separate pro bono matters since its founding in 2016, with the vast majority of the firm’s associates devoting significant time to those matters and the firm’s brightest young talent winning trials in leadership roles. Recognizing these efforts, Chambers & Partners recently shortlisted Wilkinson Stekloff for its “Pro Bono Program of the Year” award.
